Seahawks post 14th victory

The Cape Coral Seahawks wrapped up the first half of their season Monday night in a big way with an 8-0 defeat of Estero.

"The boys were really on tonight," said Seahawks coach Aldo Nardiello. "I never thought I'd see us mercy-rule Estero."

Freshman Kevin Retana led the onslought with four goals. Jonathan Jimenez tallied two goals with one assist. The other two goals came from Eli Vega and Miguel Martinez. Vega finished with two assists with single assists by Jimenez, Marvin Mosquera, Oscar Trujillo and Tyler Hopping.

Goalkeepers Alex Collazo and Austin Lachmann combined for five saves for the Seahawks (14-1, 6-0 district), who are idle until a Jan. 7 match at Fort Myers.

Boys Basketball

Dunbar 48, Ida Baker 46: Dunbar came from behind in the fourth quarter to overtake Ida Baker Monday night.

"We led most of the game," said Bulldogs coach James Sanderson, "but they turned up the pressure in the second half and outscored us 14-4 in the fourth quarter."

Three straight turnovers to start the fourth quarter proved most costly. The Bulldogs turned the ball over seven times in the second half compared to four in the first half.

Nick Benvie led the Bulldogs with a season and career-high 26 points to go with six rebounds and two assists. Derrick Loza contributed 11 points.

The Bulldogs (3-7) host Venice Thursday night.

Girls Soccer

Ida Baker 10, East Lee County 0: In a makeup game Monday, Marcella Montoya knocked in three goals and Franny Farella two to lead Ida Baker's mercy-rule victory over East Lee County.

Angela Christiano, Sedona Townsend, Roxe Fraser, Gabby Morales and Syniah Clark each contributed one goal for the Bulldogs (13-0-2), who participate in the Tritons Invitational Friday and Saturday at Mariner.

Girls Basketball

East Lee County 64, Mariner 58: East Lee County held off Mariner Monday despite four Tritons scoring in double figures.

Pharrah Milan led the Tritons with a double-double of 13 points and 18 rebounds. Mariah Ortiz chipped in with 13 points, Kiera Bateman 11 and Katie Caric 10.

The Tritons (6-1) visit crosstown rival Cape Coral at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Dunbar 84, Ida Baker 36: Dunbar had little trouble handing Ida Baker a lopsided defeat Monday.

Jessie Placher connected for 23 points with Kathleen Driscoll grabbing 17 rebounds for the Bulldogs (2-9), who participate in the Santa Slam tournament at Oasis Friday and Saturday.
