Ida Baker's boys got their first taste of victory Monday night, knocking off Marco Island 58-52.

The Bulldogs (1-3) opened the game on a 14-3 run and enjoyed a 10-point or more lead most of the game until mental mistakes caught up with them and allowed Marco Island to close the final gap.

Derrick Loza led the Bulldogs with 18 points and three assists. Kevin Acevedo contributed 17 points with four assists. Chris Snyder added 12 points and Nick Benvie 11 points and 8 rebounds.

"It feels good to win the first one and look ahead to an easier schedule where we can be more competitive," said Bulldogs coach James Sanderson.

The Bulldogs are off during the Thanksgiving holiday until they travel to Evangelical Christian next Tuesday.

East Lee County 57, Cape Coral 40: Despite leading 21-14 at halftime, Cape Coral gave up the lead in the second half Monday night and lost at East Lee County.

Jevon Boyd led the Seahawks with 15 points with C.J. Lewis adding eight.

The Seahawks (1-3) are idle until after the holiday break when they host Oasis on Dec. 5.

SWF Christian 87, Oasis 45: Southwest Florida Christian nearly doubled up Oasis on Monday night.

Owen Roos led the Sharks with 13 points and seven rebounds. Nick Lyons added five points and five assists. The Sharks (1-4) are off until next Tuesday when they visit LaBelle.

Cape Coral 3, Golden Gate 2: Cape High nearly blew a three-goal lead Monday night, but held off previously unbeaten Golden Gate.

Camillo Avendano converted a penalty kick in the first half and the Seahawks' lead held until late in the second half. Two goals by Jonathan Jimenez, both assisted by Gianni Cognata, in the second half pushed Cape's lead to 3-0 before Golden Gate started its comeback.

Goalkeepers Alex Collazo and Autsin Lachmann combined to make 11 saves for the Seahawks (7-1, 2-0 district), who don't play again until hosting Ida Baker next Tuesday.

Girls Soccer

Estero 4, North Fort Myers 1: Gabby Ciancimino scored the game's first goal within 10 minutes of kickoff, but it was all North Fort Myers could muster at Estero Monday night.

The Wildcats tied the game at the 18-minute mark and added two more to take a 3-1 lead at halftime.

Goalkeepers Jacquie Scrivanich and Coral Jarvis combined for 11 saves for the Red Knights (4-4), who host Fort Myers Tuesday night.

Girls Basketball

Cape Coral 59, East Lee County 29: Makenna Beach poured through a game-high 24 points in Cape High's 30-point victory Monday night.

Samaria Jones chipped in with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Seahawks (2-1) travel to Orlando Friday for a holiday tournament game against Olympia.

Mariner 42, Ida Baker 27: Mariner reaped the benefit of two double-figure scorers and its defense Monday night to beat Ida Baker for the first time since Jeremy Dearinger took over as the Tritons coach.

Erica Metcalf led the Tritons with 11 points with Kiera Bateman adding 10 points. Pharrah Milan contributed with 12 rebounds. Defensively, the Tritons held Baker's top scorer Jessie Placher to just 12 points.
