Tritons open with 56-29 win in opener

In the season opening game, Mariner broke it open in the first half and coasted to a 56-29 victory over crosstown rival Ida Baker Friday night.

Kris Carpenter led the Tritons with 17 points, including five three-pointers. Rodney Hunter added 12 points.

Kevin Acevedo led the Bulldogs with eight points.

"It was not an impressive first game, but it's back tyo work on Monday," said Tritons coach James Harris. "Baker came ready to play, but I think we wore them out."

The Tritons (1-0) play an in-school game at 12:15 p.m. Monday at Riverdale.

Bishop Verot 57, East Lee County 54: Ricky Doyle pitched in 21 points to lead Bishop Verot to victory over East Lee County Friday night.

Thadeus Ward contributed 12 points, including two three-pointers for the Vikings (1-0), who host South Fort Myers Saturday.

Winfred Ward hit a game-hith 26 points for the Jaguars.

Estero 74, Oasis 25: Owen Roos chipped in 15 points and seven rebounds with Brooks Pratt adding six points in a losing effort for Oasis. Friday at Estero.

The Sharks (1-2) host Southwest Florida Christian Monday.

Girls Basketball

Oasis 58, Mariner 25: Jordan Westendorf connected for a game-high 24 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to lead Oasis to victory Friday over Mariner.

Samantha Wood added 20 points for the Sharks (3-1) who host Southwest Florida Christian Monday.

North Fort Myers 54, Ida Baker 37: Jessie Placher pitched in 26 points to go with four assists and Kathleen Driscoll pulled down 17 rebounds in Baker's loss to North Fort Myers Friday night.

The Bulldogs (1-5) play at Mariner on Monday.

Girls Soccer

Mariner 3, C.S. Naples 2: Holly Fritz tallied three goals to lead Mariner past Community School of Naples Friday night.

Goalkeepers Alexis Restrepo and Sam Wolfe made seven saves apiece in one-half of work to preserve the victory.

Riverdale 3, North Fort Myers 1: Madison Lampkins scored North's lone goal in a losing effort against Riverdale Friday night.

Goalkeeper Jacquie Schrivanich made 11 saves for the Knight (4-3) who play at Estero on Monday.
