To the editor:
I would like to thank all of those that helped me move through the General Election with 55 percent of the vote. I am reminded of 2007, when my wife, children and close friends spent tireless hours on the Campaign trail putting our message out there with similar results. I want to thank those same folks and all others that helped during this most recent campaign. I am particularly pleased that my decision to ask for only what I needed to run an austere campaign was rewarded. I am proud to say that we spent less than $6,000 for our entire campaign and we did that because I understand that money is hard to come by these days. Instead, we concentrated on our message which, I am proud to say, won every debate and every endorsement. With grassroots supporters working to get our message out, we were able to garner the second most votes of all candidates.
As to our supporters and message, I am blessed with many talented and dedicated supporters that believe, as I do, that this City can be the leader of SW Florida. We have seen the hardest times, and survived, and it's time to move this City forward. Our message has been one of hope and positive thinking that speaks to the resilience of our residents and the beauty and potential of our Great City. I believe that the overall election results speak loudly and clearly as to the residents' wishes for a civil and positive message coming from this Council. I will honor that wish and also continue to speak about the future and the actions that we must be ready to take to diversify our revenue and relieve the property owners of the burden of building and maintaining this City. As I talk to many of you, I see agreement that we must be vigilant with spending but we must also be ready to defend our quality of life, public safety and potential to lead the SW region. Thanks to all of you for your support, I am humbled by your confidence and look forward to representing all of the residents of Cape Coral and working with this new Council to MOVE THIS CITY FORWARD!
