Seahawks take down Tritons 4-1

Cape Coral claimed victory in yet another classic duel with crosstown rival Mariner Tuesday night, earning a 4-1 victory at Dave Warkentin Field.

Jonathan Jimenez scored the ultimate game-winner in the first half, the first of his two goals in the match. Gianni Cognata put the Seahawks on the board early in the first half, a 1-0 lead that stood until Eric Rivera scored for the Tritons.

Mateo Perez added a second-half goal. Both of Jimenez's goals were assisted by Camillo Avendano with solo assists by Oscar Trujillo and Miguel Martinez for the Seahawks (6-0, 2-0 district), who play Thursday night at Ida Baker.

The Tritons (4-1-2) host Community School of Naples Friday night.

Ida Baker 2, Island Coast 1: Baker held off Island Coast in the second half to claim victory Tuesday night.

Cody Grover and Taylor Wagner scored goals for the Bulldogs, both assisted by Joey Minervini. Goalkeeper Trey Crispin made three saves to preserve the win.

The Bulldogs (3-0-2) host Cape High Thursday night.

Bishop Verot 10, Oasis 0: Tyler Yergens and Nathan Powers tallied three goals apiece Tuesday night to propel Bishop Verot to its fourth straight shutout victory.

Peter Routsis, Brandon Doyle, Zachary Cloutier and Adrian Urquiola each added one goal in the match that was terminated at halftime by the mercy rule.

The Vikings (4-0) play Thursday at LaBelle.

Boys Basketball

South Fort Myers 60, Ida Baker 52: South Fort Myers handed Ida Baker a season-opening defeat Tuesday night in a close game.

Derrick Loza led the Bulldogs with 24 points, five rebounds, three assists and one steal. Mick Benvie added 11 points.

Girls Soccer

Mariner 3, Cape Coal 0: Mariner prevailed over crosstown rival Cape High Tuesday behind two goals from Holly Fritz and one by Yasmeen Saenz.

Sam Wolfe and Alexis Restrepo shared goalkeeping duty with three saves apiece for the Tritons (4-3-1), who host Community School of Naples Friday night.

The Red Knights also got single goals from Megan Richards, Nicole Paquin, Caitlin McGlynn, Morgan Cook and Gabby Cianciamino. Darian Moore made two saves in goal to preserve the shutout.

The Knights (4-2, 2-1 district) host Riverdale Friday night.

Girls Basketball

Cape Coral 48, Fort Myers 41: McKenna Beach pitched in 21 points and Crystal Townsend 13 to lead Cape High to victory Tuesday night over Fort Myers.

The Seahawks (4-1) play again Thursday night at Riverdale.
