A veteran’s thoughts

To the editor:

The years we spent fighting in the Korean War were very formative ones. Most of us were young, just out of high school and were only beginning to form our own opinions and values. We were fortunate to be of an age when teachers taught the three Rs, plus geography, history and science.

All of us stood every morning for a silent prayer and we said the Pledge of Allegiance. We were told daily that we are a free people and to be proud of it. Stand up straight and tall.

So the war made men of us. We already had the values and the pride. The men that were made of that terrible conflict are the men that we became, with understanding real values and great pride.

We still stand today, tall and proud!!
