Baker boys settle for season-opening tie

The season debut did not turn out the way Ida Baker had envisioned it. The Bulldogs hosted Riverdale at Bulldogs Stadium and a second-half goal managed a 1-1 tie.

Riverdale's first-half goal came on a free kick and stood up until the 30-minute mark of the second half when Brandon Taylor's goal tied the match. Filander Barahona fed the ball to Joey Minervini who in turn tapped it to Taylor for the score.

There wasn't much work for goalkeeper Trey Crispin as the defenses for both sides managed to keep the ball in the middle of the field most of the game.

The Bulldogs (0-0-1) play at North Fort Myers on Tuesday.

Cape Coral 4, Island Coast 1: Mateo Arango tallied two goals to help lead Cape Coral past Island Coast Thursday night at Dave Warkentin Field.

Oscar Trujillo and Kevin Rentana assisted on Arango's goals. Jonathan Jiminez and Mateo Perez tacked on insurance goals for the Seahawks with Camillo Avendano and Miguel Martinez claiming assists.

Goalkeepers Austin Lachmann and Kyal Weber combined for seven saves for the Seahawks (2-0), who travel to Gulf Coast Friday night.

Fort Myers 3, Mariner 1: Fort Myers garnered three first-half goals to set Mariner on its heels early and its first loss Thursday night.

Holly Fritz put the Tritons on the board in the second half with an unassisted goal. The Tritons (3-1) play Tuesday night at Lemon Bay.
