To the editor:
I find it interesting that the Cape Coral city council has hypocrites sitting on the dais. Yes that"s what I said. The council members from district 2, 3, 5, and 7 are hypocrites.
This past Monday before the city council meeting the councilman from district 7 began the meeting by saying they were going to honor the veterans for Veterans Day by playing all the service branches' theme songs. Yet in their infinite wisdom they saw fit to tax us disabled veterans with a 7 percent PST on our electric bills.
Let's see, the federal government saw fit not to tax us disabled veterans on our disability checks, the State of Florida gives us disabled veterans tax breaks on certain things, and Lee County gives us disabled veterans a huge tax break on our property taxes by giving whole tax exemption . But the city of Cape Coral says you veterans get enough tax breaks so screw you, we are going to tax you - ha, ha, ha, eat that you nasty disabled vets.
With this new city council in place I dare any one of you to have the courage to stand up and say "We're sorry disabled veterans of Cape Coral, we made a mistake."
Then make a motion to remove us disabled veterans from the PST tax roles. It should then be seconded by the other seven remaining people and voted on 8-0 in favor of removing disabled veterans from the PST.
I mean if the other three branches of government gives us vets a tax break, why can't the city of Cape Coral do the same?
Mr. Donnell, I dare you to take the bull by the horns and lead the way in doing this being you started the meeting by honoring us veterans. Well, if really want to honor us remove us from the PST tax rolls.
I will be in Baypines V.A. hospital for the next two weeks so I will miss at least the next two council meetings. But on Nov. 18, when the new council is sworn in this should be the first thing brought up and voted on.
