To the editor:
Tuesday's election taught us that when action is taken, we can and do make a difference. I believe changes have to be made in Cape Coral, and now our city is in a position to make changes happen. The Mayor's election was very close, a few less votes or a few votes in the wrong direction would have taken us down the same path of anti-growth, anti-business and anti-consensus "no bridge building" that we have been on for the past four years. I believe that, together, we made the necessary choices to open the door to a better future for Cape Coral. We are now in a position to hold our heads high with a City Council that will, over time, bring back the respect we have long been without.
We must not stop here. We have taken the first step, but our forward motion will come to an abrupt end if we don't continue to take action. We need our voices heard. It's now time to help guide our city in a new and positive direction. I hope you will join me in welcoming our new Mayor, Marni Sawicki, and thank her for all her hard work. Please join me in a united effort to promote the changes necessary to lead our city in the future. Thank you all for all of your work, your votes and now the real work begins.
