December programs set at Northwest Regional Library

Next month's roster of activities at Northwest Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

ADULT

English Caf

10:30 a.m., Thursdays, Dec. 5, 12, 19

Practice English with English Cafe, a free, conversation session for adult ESOL and ESL students. Each 90-minute session provides adult learners an opportunity to practice speaking English with native speakers. Participants may start at any time. Advanced registration is not necessary.

Nibbles and Novels

10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11

Enjoy a snack while chatting about books with other book lovers.

Book Discussion: "Little Women"

by Louisa May Alcott

2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 18

Follow the lives of the four beloved March sisters Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy growing up in New England during the Civil War in Louisa May Alcott's ground breaking classic novel depicting 19th century American family life, "Little Women."

FAMILY

Baby-Parent Rhyme Time

10:30 a.m., Wednesdays, Dec. 4, 11

10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 7

Be prepared to tickle, jump and fly with your baby! These rhymes and songs are for infants, up to 24 months, accompanied by an adult. This 20-minute program is filled with songs designed to introduce rhyming and movement to infants. Registration is required.

Family Storytime

10:30 a.m., Thursdays, Dec. 5, 12

This program is for the whole family and lasts about 30 minutes. Registration is required.

CHILDREN

Kids Read Down Fines

57 p.m., Tuesdays, Dec. 3, 17

10 a.m.noon, Saturdays, Dec. 14, 28

Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading, during the allotted time. A total of $8 per day may be earned. For ages 18 and younger. Coupons may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only.

Merry Moosemas!

6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 10

Reindeer aren't the only members of the deer family that get into the holiday spirit. Join the fun at the Northwest Regional Library and celebrate the season with all things "mooseical." The craft project for this fun program will involve making antlers of your own. Registration is required.

Books-n-Bricks with Bricks4Kidz

6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 17

Children will experience hands-on engineering fundamentals as they build motorized models, provided by the Bricks4Kidz organization, that coordinate with and enhance the fantastic stories presented by the library staff. Program is limited to 30 children in grades K-5. Registration is required.

TEEN

Let's Talk Books

4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 3

What could be better than sipping hot chocolate, munching a great cookie and talking about a favorite book or movie? Come on in, join the group. Snacks provided by Friends of the Northwest Regional Library.

On the Table: Glow in the Dark Ornaments

Dec. 9 - 14

Available during normal library operating hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 10 a.m. 6 p.m.; Tues-day, Noon 8 p.m.; Friday: 9 a.m. 5 p.m.

Make a very special bulb that will glow in the dark. Supplies provided by the Friends of the Northwest Regional Library.

Philosophy Club

3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12

Philosophy = the love of wisdom. Like philosophy? Don't know a lot about philosophy? Know a little but want to learn more? This is a student driven club where everyone is encouraged to participate.

Game'n

3 p.m., Fridays,

Dec. 13, 30

Play Wii, board games, relay races or Minute to Win It. Participants choice. Join in the fun and light snacks.
