November programs set at Northwest Regional Library

Next month's roster of activities at Northwest Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

ADULT

English Caf

10:30 a.m., Thursdays, Nov. 7, 14, 21

Practice English with English Cafe, a free, conversation session for adult ESOL and ESL students. Each 90-minute session provides adult learners an opportunity to practice speaking English with native speakers. Participants may start at any time. Advanced registration is not necessary.

Nibbles and Novels

10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13

Enjoy a snack while chatting about books with other book lovers.

Book Discussion: The Woman

at the Light by Joanna Brady

2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20

In 1829, Key West is just a dusty, shabby settlement of a few hundred people when 18-year-old Emily Lowry arrives from New Orleans with her new husband. A few years later he disappears and she is left alone to care for their children and take over his job as lighthouse keeper. New challenges await her as she makes her way in this isolated place, where the rules and mores of society are distant and the ways of the local wreckers are close at hand.

FAMILY

Baby-Parent Rhyme Time

10:30 a.m., Wednesdays, Nov. 6, 13, 20, 27

10:30 a.m., Saturdays, Nov. 9, 23

Be prepared to tickle, jump and fly with your baby! These rhymes and songs are for infants, up to 24 months, accompanied by an adult. This 20-minute program is filled with songs designed to introduce rhyming and movement to infants. Registration is required.

Family Storytime

10:30 a.m., Thursdays, Nov. 7, 14, 21

This program is for the whole family and lasts about 30 minutes. Registration is required.

CHILDREN

Kids Read Down Fines

10 a.m. noon, Saturdays, Nov. 2, 16, 30

5 7 p.m., Tuesdays, Nov. 5, 19

Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading, during the allotted time. A total of $8 per day may be earned. For ages 18 and younger. Coupons may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only.

Reading Academy

4:30 p.m., Thursdays, Nov. 7, 14

Reading, spelling, puppets and games! Get a reading boost with this fun-filled program. For kids in grades K-5. Children participating are expected to know how to read and write. Sponsored by the Friends of the Northwest Regional Library. Registration is required. Please register online or in person at the library before the program.

Books-n-Bricks with Bricks4Kidz

6 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 19

Children will experience hands-on engineering fundamentals as they build motorized models, provided by the Bricks4Kidz organization, that coordinate with and enhance the fantastic stories presented by the library staff. Program is limited to 30 children in grades K-5. Registration is required.

TEEN

On the Table: Popsicle Stick Bracelets

Nov. 4 - 15

Available during normal library operating hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 10 a.m. 6 p.m.; Tuesday, noon 8 p.m.; Friday: 9 a.m. 5 p.m.

Who would have thought that such fun stuff can be created out of a Popsicle stick. Guys this is not for girls only. This is a unisex bracelet. Have fun with this simple teen project.

Philosophy Club

3 p.m., Thursdays, Nov. 7, 21

Philosophy = the love of wisdom. Like philosophy? Don't know a lot about philosophy? Know a little but want to learn more? This is a student driven club where everyone is encouraged to participate.

Game'n

4 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12

Play Wii, board games, relay races or Minute to Win It. Participants choice. Join in the fun and light snacks.
