Douglas James Winfield, 49, of Cape Coral, formerly of Island Heights, N.J., passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013. He was born Sept. 24, 1964, in Toms River, N.J., to Fred and Cindy Winfield, who survive and reside in Cape Coral.

He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church, Cape Coral, and was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He loved to live life to the fullest, riding his motorcycle, traveling throughout the country and spending time with his friends and family. He had an impact on so many lives, with his love and acceptance of others and his generosity to all. He had a wonderful sense of humor and brought a brightness to everyone he met. His smile and quick wit will remain in all of our hearts forever.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Renee D'Angelo of Cape Coral; three loving children, Shannen Winfield of New Orleans, Stephanie Winfield of Tallahassee, Fla., and Paul Lapikas of Cape Coral; one sister, Carrie Whitney of Cape Coral; one brother, Chris (Emma) Winfield of Cape Coral; one niece, Alaina Winfield of Cape Coral; three nephews, Adam and Alex Winfield and Nick Whitney, all of Cape Coral; his father-in-law, Frank D'Angelo and wife Joan Lack of New York; two special "brothers," Mike Zubal and Rob Brylinski; as well his dog, Chief.

He was preceded in death by his nephew, David Whitney of Louisville, Ky.

Memorial services were held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Grace United Methodist Church, 13 S.E. 21st Place, Cape Coral, with Pastor Wes Olds officiating.

Renee felt it important to let friends, family and colleagues know that Doug embraced the following Bible verse: Whosoever believeth in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Memorial contributions in memory of Douglas J. Winfield are suggested to Grace Church Food Pantry, a mission very close to his heart.
