Disabled Veterans Insurance Careers Inc. is planning a unique fund-raiser at historic Tarpon Lodge on Pine Island. The event, scheduled Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 18-20, includes both fishing the backwaters of Pine Island Sound and nine holes of golf overlooking Redfish Pass at South Seas Island resort.

DVIC is a non-profit organization that offers disabled veterans job training, job opportunities and the opportunity for a career in the insurance industry. The mission at DVIC is to "train and generate meaningful employment opportunities for physically disabled veterans "

It is headquartered in Fort Myers.

"We are delighted to welcome BB&T Oswald Trippe and Company as the title sponsor," Gary Bryant, president and chief executive officer of DVIC, said in a prepared statement. "Proceeds from the Turf and Surf Experience will help us train and employ physically disabled veterans on an insurance career path."

Veterans that graduate the program can acquire training, licensing and employment at an insurance company or agency.

The number of disabled veterans increases every year and in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars there have been 20,000 wounded veterans. The DVIC works closely with the Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment Service of the Department of Veterans Affairs in order to identify qualified, physically disabled veterans.

Participating veterans have served in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Fishing teams will fish with a licensed charter captain and winners will be determined by the most aggregate inches of redfish.

Golfing team winners will be determined by the lowest gross team scores and the overall team champions will be determined by the aggregate scores in both golf and fishing.

To register for the BB&T Oswald Trippe and Company Surf and Turf Experience or for additional information about Disabled Veterans Insurance Careers, call 239-433-8523 or visit www.DVIC.us.
