To the editor:
Can one person make a difference in this world? In 2010, Julie Wolfe wanted a forum where she and others could make new friends. As a Cape small business owner herself, she also wanted to see small businesses get supported. Julie combined this vision into the Cape Coral Coffee Lovers group.
Julie took a chance and started the group on Meetup.com, hoping she would get some takers. The group started out slowly with a few members and soon became a tight knit group of dedicated friends. Then, through word of mouth and the Meetup.com site, more and more were drawn to Julie's group. Meeting every other Saturday at local coffee shops, folks were excited to meet other people and make new friendships. The group has grown to a point where get-togethers are now held every Saturday at a local restaurant or coffee shop.
Sadly, Julie passed away on Sept. 21. But her legacy lives on with the now 100-plus member Coffee Lovers group. The number of friendships made in this group has been exponential in size, and has improved each member's life for the better. Julie far exceeded her original vision, and we are all grateful for her efforts.
I can personally testify to what a positive impact this group has made on my new life here in the Cape, giving me friends and support that will be with me forever. We will all "pay it forward" by continuing to support the Coffee Lovers group.
So the answer is YES, one person can absolutely make a difference. Thank you Julie!
