World champion and former Major League Baseball pitching star Derek Lowe will serve as the special guest host for the Lee Memorial Health System Foundation's Southwestern Sports Spectacular.
The event is set for Sunday, Sept. 29, at the new LongHorn Steakhouse in Gulf Coast Town Center.
Proceeds will benefit Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida's capital campaign. The campaign is raising funds for a new Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida to be built on the campus of HealthPark Medical Center in Fort Myers. The new state-of-the art pediatric medical facility will provide lifesaving care and treatment for children from Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties.
The event includes a full hot breakfast, Q&A with Lowe, autograph opportunity and silent and live auctions including hand-signed memorabilia from Derek Jeter, Brian Urlacher, Wayne Gretzky, Tim Lincecum, Tim Tebow, Dan Marino and more. Luxury travel, ticket and dining packages include a private wine dinner for 10 guests at The Capital Grille of Naples, premium Miami Heat versus Boston Celtics tickets, Miami Dolphins versus New England Patriots club-level tickets, premium tickets with meet-and-greet opportunity for the Keith Urban concert on Oct. 5 in West Palm Beach and the opportunity to play in a golf foursome with Derek at the exclusive Hideout Golf Club in Naples.
Derek Lowe began his career on April 26, 1997 playing for the Seattle Mariners. His last MLB appearance was on May 19, 2013 with the Texas Rangers. In addition to these teams, Lowe pitched for the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves and had stops along with way with the Cleveland Indians and New York Yankees.
During this special morning, Lowe will share some his greatest moments, his most challenging moments and what it's like to break the "Curse of the Bambino" to win the 2004 World Series and hear the roar of the Boston Faithful in a parade that shut down the city. He'll also share the story of pitching a no-hitter at Fenway Park on April 27, 2002 versus the Tampa Bay Devil Rays - a feat that hadn't been done in 37 years even with some of the greatest pitchers in baseball passing through the park each season.
Mark Miller of ESPN Radio 99.3FM's "Miller & Moulton" show will serve as moderator for the Q&A panel and music will be provided by New Beginnings Events' Robert McDonald.
Sponsors include LongHorn Steakhouse, Audi of Fort Myers and ESPN Radio 99.3FM.
