Cape looks to confirm election results Monday

With budget talks and millage rates now behind them, the Cape Coral City Council will have quite a few things to consider at Monday's regular city council meeting at City Hall.

The city will pass two resolutions, confirming the results of the Sept. 10 primary, as well as call for elections for mayor and the council seats for Districts 1, 4 and 6 on Nov. 5.

The votes are considered a formality.

The board also will consider an ordinance that would amend the laws governing alternate members of the Planning & Zoning Commission.

The ordinance would amend the roles of alternate P&Z members to allow them to participate in discussions at all times.

It is a language change to be consistent with the provision under another section of the P&Z regulations that allows for discussions.

At the Aug. 7 meeting, the P&Z voted unanimously to recommend approval of the ordinance.

The city also will conduct a final vote on the lease agreement between the city and Ford's Boathouse to construct its new restaurant at the site of the old K-C's River Stop at the Yacht Club.

The lease will be a 10-year agreement with a 10-year option, as opposed to the five year lease and three five-year options as before.

Ford's Boathouse will provide food from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, as well as fishing bait and gasoline for boats. After six months, the owners of Ford's hopes to extend hours on the weekend to 11 p.m., which was questioned by the city council a few weeks ago, concerned it would create noise in an area where homes are nearby.

Ford's hopes to be in business by the end of the year.

The council will introduce a resolution to either affirm or deny a decision made by the Dept. of Community Development director to deny a request to allow a former model home to be used as such in a Marketplace/Residential district.

Shyler, LLC was told by interim DCD Director Paul Dickson they would not be allowed to keep their single-family model home in that area, a decision the company has appealed.

Public input is set for Oct. 7.

The council will also hear the Strategic Plan and Audit Plan for the 2014 fiscal year by City Auditor Margaret Krym. Tentative plans for 2015 and 2016 also will be presented.

The audit plan will include nine projects done by outside resources, such as the Southwest 6 & 7 UEP, and 10 projects done by internal staff
