Eugene (Gene) Hardy Garrity, 86, died Aug. 28, 2013. at Hope Hospice, Fort Myers. He was born in Louisville, Ky., April 25, 1927, to George and Mae (Griffin) Garrity.
He graduated from Ahrens Trade School as an electrician and was drafted into the Army during World War II and served for two years. Upon his return, he fell in love with Laura Elizabeth Hibdon and they were married Oct. 31, 1945, and were married for 60 years until her death.
He lived in Buechel, Ky.; Fern Creek, Ky.; and Underwood, Ind., where he purchased a farm and built their dream house. He then moved to Cape Coral in 1997.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and enjoyed square dancing, bowling and trips to Walmart. He was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Cape Coral and attended New Hope Presbyterian Church in Fort Myers.
He was a gentleman, and a sweet, kind person who always had a smile and kind word for all.
He will be missed by many people, especially his daughters, Sharon Woods (Bob Sweeney) and Cheryl Leslie Schoemann (Blake); his grandchildren, Ashley, Robbie, Tracy, Michael, Lauren and Zack; his great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Bryce, Sienna, Carter, Morgan and Skyler; and his brother, Edward Garrity.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Laura; his daughter, Deborah; his brother, George (Bud); and his sister, Doris Hagan.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 13, at 11 a.m., at Faith Presbyterian Church, 4544 Coronado Blvd., Cape Coral, with his ashes to be placed in the Memorial Garden where his wife and love of his life, Laura's ashes are also placed.
