Verot rallies for five-set victory

Bishop Verot came back from the brink of defeat to outlast LaBelle Thursday night in a five-set volleyball marathon.

The Vikings got behind by dropping the first two games, but managed to keep their composure and rallied for a 16-25, 18-25, 25-21, 25-18, 18-16 District 4A-11 victory at LaBelle.

Ashlyn Brown paced the Vikings comeback with 18 kills to go with 27 assists. Lauren Sheeley contributed 16 kills, Emily Hudson 13 kills and Alena Hernandez 19 digs.

The win gives the Vikings (2-1) a 2-0 mark in district play heading into Monday's match at Barron Collier.

Oasis 3, Gateway 0: Larra Bickelhaupt delivered 14 kills to help boost Oasis to a straight-set victory Thursday at Gateway.

Danielle Bebber contributed eight kills and two blocks toward toe 25-4, 25-12, 25-24 victory. Jordan Westendorf added seven kills.

The Sharks (3-1 play Monday at First Baptist Academy.
