A Cape Coral man is accused of robbing a Wells Fargo bank in Fort Myers on Thursday.
John Paul Cross, 34, of 3218 Santa Barbara Blvd., was arrested and charged Friday with one count of felony robbery. As of Tuesday, he was being held at the Hillsborough County Jail without bond.
Cross was picked up on a warrant out of Lee County, according to booking records.
At 4:08 p.m. Thursday, the Fort Myers police responded to a robbery at the Wells Fargo, at 9250 Six Mile Cypress Parkway. A man had entered the bank and displayed a note to a teller demanding money, according to police officials. The man then fled the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
No one inside the bank was hurt during the incident.
Authorities released surveillance photos of the suspect, and numerous people identified him as Cross through Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, police reported. A warrant was obtained for his arrest.
Further investigation led detectives to the Tampa area, where Cross was located and detained.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office assisted.
