Baker boys win North of River golf title

Picking up right where it left off last season, the Ida Baker boys claimed victory in the North of the River golf tournament Thursday by an 11-stroke margin at Magnolia Landing.

Ross Lally led the Bulldogs with a medalist round of 3-over-par 39. Teammate Alex DiLallo was one stroke back at 40. The Bulldogs finished with a foursome score of 169.

Led by Alex Trujillo's 6-over 42, Mariner claimed second place with a team total of 180 with four scores in the 40s. Cody Carroll and Austin Vecchiarelli each carded 45.

Third place went to tournament host North Fort Myers with 227 and Island Coast placed fourth at 243. Nick Marchitto led the Red Knights with a low round of 49 while Nick Murray shot 56 to lead the Gators.

Cape Coral did not earn a team score with just three players participating, led by Sam Johnson's 45.

Mariner takes on Lehigh Tuesday at Copperhead while Cape Coral hosts East Lee County at Cape Royale. Baker and Mariner join Island Coast Wednesday at Herons Glen.

Girls Golf

North Fort Myers 255, Cape Coral 260, Mariner 272: Emma Orth's round of 56 was good enough to help carry North Fort Myers to victory Thursday in the girls version of the North of the River Tournament at Coral Oaks.

North's winning team score of 255 was five strokes better than Cape Coral's 260 with Mariner taking third at 272. Baker did not earn a team score with three players participating.

Brooke Ciccone turned in the day's low round with 42 to lead Cape Coral. Baker's Maggie Coffman had the only other round in the 40s at 48.

Volleyball

Mariner 3, East Lee County 0: Heather Gillions, Kennedy Adams and Summer Greenwell led Mariner to its second victory this week, a 25-4, 25-5, 25-13 triumph at East Lee County Thursday night.

The Tritons (2-0) host Ida Baker Tuesday night.

Cape Coral 3, Island Coast 2: After going two games down, Island Coast rallied with two wins to tie the match and send it to a tiebreaker Thursday night.

Cape Coral pulled out a 25-23, 25-20, 19-25, 17-25, 15-8 victory on its home floor.

Kaatie Upton led the Seahawks (1-1) with three service aces, three kills and 10 assists. Makenzie Buss added two aces, four kills and four assists while Paola Melendez delivered four kills and five aces.

Kalli Roggow led the Gators' comeback with 12 kills, four digs and a pair of service aces. Jennifer Fasano chipped in with eight kills, six digs while Tiarah Marrero added five digs.

The Gators (1-1) host Mariner and the Seahawks visit Lehigh on Wednesday.

Ida Baker 3, South Fort Myers 0: Baker claimed a straight-set victory at South Fort Myers Thursday night. The Bulldogs (2-1) posted scores of 25-9, 25-18 and 26-24.

Amanda Gross and Devon Ramey led the Bulldogs offensively. Gross delivered eight kills to go with five service aces. Ramey contributed seven kills and eight aces. Tiffany Wood handed out 17 assists.

Baker travels to Mariner Tuesday night.

North Fort Myers 3, Lehigh 1: Slipping up just once, North Fort Myers mowed down Lehigh Thursday night 25-19, 23-25, 25-13, 25-12.

Madison Prusak and Katelyn Kelly had 11 kills and five digs each with Kelly also contributing seven service aces. Setter Julie Scherer handed out 37 assists.

The Red Knights (1-1) host East Lee County on Tuesday.
