To the editor:
I attended the recent mayor's debate at the Veteran's Museum last Saturday. It proved that John Sullivan is the "only" choice for mayor. Although his opponents tried to fudge figures and facts with him they found out he really does know what he is talking about.
The only thing I will disagree with everyone about is this so called job creation. Cape Coral is not, nor has it ever been, creative for jobs to come here. There are a multitude of reasons for that fact.
First, Cape Coral was not designed for businesses or any kind of industry. Second, we have nothing really to speak of to offer any company to relocate here. We are one hour from the airport, we are 45 minutes from the interstate, we have no water, sewer in place where there are open spaces for industry. No beaches to speak of; the so-called beach at the Yacht club is embarrassing and, in fact, that is the only beach we have. What is there in the way of entertainment? Just bars and Sun Splash which closes for six months. No major shopping center.
We have stupid, silly ordinances. One does not allow companies to let their employees take trucks home and park in their own driveways. We have a sign ordinance that really is out dated. Most of all, all the red tape and hoopla companies have to jump through for permitting.
Then to top it all off we have a city council (with six members) that are an embarrassment to us citizens. Watch or attend a city council meeting and you'll see what I'm talking about.
