Stevens Construction Inc. named to fastest-growing companies list

Stevens Construction, a healthcare and commercial construction management and design build firm, has been ranked as one of the fastest-growing private companies in America, earning a position on the exclusive Inc. 5,000 list.

Stevens Construction reported a 57 percent growth in revenue over the past three years. The Inc. 500/5000 2013 list ranks companies according to percentage of revenue growth between 2009 and 2012. To qualify, companies must also be U.S.-based, privately-held, for-profit and independent firms with minimum revenue of $2 million in 2012.

Named Contractor of the Year in 2012 and 2011 by the Lee Building Industry Association, Stevens Construction was founded in 2003 in Fort Myers by Mark Stevens. The company employs 38 professionals, and is currently working on its largest project to date, a multi-phase transformation of Florida Hospital in Tampa.

Sales of existing homes climb across county in July

Existing single family home sales across Lee County increased by 6.8 percent in July with 1,005 units sold compared to 941 in July 2012, according to the Realtor Association of Greater Fort Myers and The Beach. Versus the prior month, sales decreased by 47 units or 4.5 percent. For the past five months, existing home sales have topped 1,000 homes a month, reflecting the growing demand for residential properties due to a limited supply, along with rising prices and interest rates.

Distressed properties (made up of foreclosure and short sales) represent 25.4 percent of existing homes sold in July, whereas in July 2012 distressed properties were over 33 percent of properties sold. While traditional properties dominated sales in July (74.6 percent), the median price softened to $163,000. This is 20.7 percent above the July 2012 median price of $135,000 but a drop of $22,000 or 11.9 percent from June 2013.

New pending sales of existing single family homes those under contract and awaiting closing - remained strong with 1,149 units going under contract in July, which is 24.6 percent above the 922 units that went pending in July 2012. Active listings the number of existing homes available for purchase in Lee County is 13.1 percent below July 2012 with 4,924 properties available for purchase compared to 5,668 a year ago.

Single family homes of all types spent a median 49 days on the market before coming under contract in July. This is the same number of days on market as reported in July 2012; however, from June 2013, this is a drop of 8 days or a change of 14.0 percent. Based on the pace of current sales, the months supply of inventory in Lee County is 5.0 months. This is 8.9 percent below July 2012, when the months supply of inventory was 5.5 months.
