John "JJ" Sherman of Cape Coral, formerly of Vineland, N.J., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, after a brief battle with Glioblastoma with his family by his side.
Born Jan. 11, 1942, to John and Agnes Sherman of Millville, he was a member of the New Jersey State Police (Badge # 2087) for 29 years until his retirement as a sergeant first class in 1994. After his time with the state police, he and his wife, Janice, went on to own Sherman Modular Homes in East Vineland, N.J., for 15 years until moving to Cape Coral ("Paradise") in 2005.
He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, most specifically his Eagles and Phillies, but he bled blue and gold for his beloved Notre Dame, even attending a game in the past few years in Indiana with his son, Jeff. His love for Cape Coral and surrounding area was evident when people came to visit. He enjoyed boating and cruising around in his classic Corvettes. To know him was to know his many loves including '50s era music, especially Elvis, being a New Jersey State Trooper, growing gardenias, cruising on his boat and his perfectionism. He loved his kids and his dream was to have all three of them with him in Florida some day.
