Naming parks, buildings

August 23, 2013
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

To the editor:

I don't know where the idea to name a park or building after someone came into fruition, but I believe the person getting honored would appreciate it much more if a dinner would be held in their honor, charge for the dinner and give the proceeds to Cape Coral Caring Center or the Museum, the veterans, etc. If that person was a "giver" then that is probably what they would want. Not some place named for them.

Bernie Braden , who? I knew Bernie, but there are hundreds in the Cape who have never heard of her. She contributed much more to this city than most will ever know about.

As to Roger Butler. I also know Roger, and he is a nice man who has done much for Cape Coral. Let's ask Roger if he wants a building named after him, or if he would prefer to keep giving back to Cape Coral by having a dinner and donating the funds to a needy organization.
