North library sets activities, programs for September

Next month's roster of activities at Northwest Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

ADULT

Exhibit: Vacation in Your Own Backyard

Sept. 3 18

Available during normal library operating hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 10 a.m. 6 p.m.; Tuesday, Noon 8 p.m.; Friday: 9 a.m. 5 p.m.

In partnership with the Lee County Tourism and Convention Bureau, the exhibit showcases places in Lee County where family and friends can explore and enjoy our beautiful area on a budget.

English Caf

10:30 a.m. Thursdays, Sept. 5, 12, 19, 26

Practice your English with English Cafe, a free, conversation session for adult ESOL and ESL students. Each 90-minute session provides adult learners an opportunity to practice speaking English with native speakers. Participants may start at any time. Advanced registration is not necessary.

Discover Lee County Parks & Recreation

1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7

Discover the treasures of Lee County Parks & Recreation at this fun and informative overview of all they have to offer. The opportunities are endless!

Naturalization Information Session

2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28

Get answers to naturalization questions at the library. Representatives from the U.S. Office of Citizenship and Immigration (USCIS) will offer information on the naturalization process. Registration is required.

Baby-Parent

Rhyme Time

10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 4, 11, 18, 25

Be prepared to tickle, jump and fly with your baby! These rhymes and songs are for infants, up to 24 months, accompanied by an adult. This 20-minute program is filled with songs designed to introduce rhyming and movement to infants. Registration is required.

Family Storytime

10:30 a.m. Thursdays, Sept. 5, 12, 19, 26

This program is for the whole family and lasts about 30 minutes. Registration is required.

Mexican Mummy Fiesta with Skippyjon Jones

6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17

It's Fiesta Time as Skippyjon Jones mixes up some Mexican Mummy Mayhem. Get wrapped up in the fun with the story and crafts at the Northwest Regional Library. Registration is requested.

CHILDREN

LEGO Story Lab

6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3

Visit the library for LEGO fun! LEGO Story Lab, a program for grades K-5, incorporates hands-on activities and literacy. With LEGOs and an imagination, kids can build anything and tell any story. Come to the LEGO Story Lab to hear, see, make and create different stories, all while building with LEGO!

Why LEGOS in the library? Hands-on play improves concentration, scientific logic and reasoning, problem-solving and creativity - skills that go hand in hand with reading, literacy and learning. Sponsored by the Friends of the Northwest Regional Library. Registration is required.

Reading Academy

4:30 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 5, 12, 19, 26

Reading, spelling, puppets and games! Get a reading boost with this fun-filled program. Children participating are expected to know how to read and write. For grades K-5. Sponsored by the Friends of the Northwest Regional Library. Registration is required.

Kids Read Down Fines

10 a.m. Noon Saturdays, Sept. 7, 21

5 7 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 10, 24

Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading, during the allotted time. A total of $8 per day may be earned. For ages 18 and younger. Credit may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only.

Set a trend, be unique. Take a pen or pencil add duct tape, maybe some feathers and there it is -- a designer writing implement.

Game'n

3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11

Play Wii, board games, relay races or Minute to Win It. Participants choice. Join in the fun and light snacks.

Philosophy Club

3 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 12, 26

Philosophy = the love of wisdom. Like philosophy? Don't know a lot about philosophy? Know a little but want to learn more? This is a student driven club where everyone is encouraged to participate.

Let's Talk Books

4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25

What could be better than sipping hot chocolate, munching on a great cookie and talking about a favorite book or movie? Come on in, join the group. Snacks provided by Friends of the Northwest Regional Library. Registration is required.
