Achieva Credit Union

to hold grand opening

Achieva Credit Union is celebrating its first branch opening in Cape Coral with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday, Aug. 16, at 4:30 p.m. Join the Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce as it welcomes Achieva to the community.

Special guests at the ribbon-cutting event are Joseph Mazurkiewicz, Chairman, Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce; Dana Brunett, director, Cape Coral Economic Development; and Gary Regoli, CEO of Achieva Credit Union.

Achieva Credit Union will then hold its grand opening Saturday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Staples for Students National School Supply Drive continues

Staples, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and teen actor Jake T. Austin recently kicked off a national school supply drive across the country. The 6th annual Staples for Students National School Supply Drive will supply local students with the tools they need to be successful in school. Through, Aug. 18, teens can drop off supplies at their nearest Staples store, and Staples will put the supplies in the hands of local BGCA students. Staples customers can also continue to donate $1 or more at their local Staples store through September 28.

One hundred percent of the donations will benefit local students at Boys & Girls Clubs of Lee County

The two Cape Coral Staples stores to make a donation are located at 1631 Del Prado Blvd., and 1800 Pine Island Road, N.E.

Lee County Port Authority earns state recognition

The Lee County Port Authority was honored with a Golden Image Award and a Judges' Award from the Florida Public Relations Association at the 2013 Golden Image Awards held in St. Petersburg, Fla. FPRA conducts the Golden Image Awards annually to recognize outstanding public relations programs. The awards have become a standard of excellence in demonstrating the best of innovation, planning and design in the state of Florida. LCPA received a Golden Image Award and a Judges' Award in the Public Relations Programs Internal category for its Facebook Launch for Southwest Florida International Airport.

Golden Image Awards are presented to the top-scoring entry in each category that meets the standard of excellence set forth by the judges. White to hold book signing

Randy Wayne White will hold a book signing at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Fort Myers Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m.

White will be signing copies of his latest novel, "Deceived," and participate in a question and answer session.

"Deceived" is the story of 20-year-old unsolved murder from Florida's pot-hauling days that gets Hannah Smith's attention, but so does a more immediate problem.
