Robert E. Lee portrait

To the editor:

The NAACP is past ridiculous in demanding removal of the Robert E. Lee portrait from Lee County building. Next, they will go to the public libraries and "demand" all articles, pictures, history, etc. will be removed from all books at the libraries.

General Lee was a hero in the War Between The States and was in charge of the Northern Virginia territories. He also was a friend and great supporter of Abraham Lincoln.

Why not have the NAACP demand all George Washington portraits be eliminated? He was a slave owner.

Has the NAACP ever thought about how people became slaves? Their own African people went into the country and forcibly took their ancestors to the coasts to sell to the English, West Indies and America, among other countries. If they want to blame anybody for slavery, let them go to Africa and find the ancestors who originally sold them. The traders certainly weren't capable of going into that country and capturing all of those people.

I strongly object to the portrait of Robert E. Lee being taken down. That is part of the history of the United States of America.

Love it or leave it. The door is open!
