Cape rowers head to Masters Nationals

The Cape Coral Rowing Club will have a strong presence at this weekend's US Rowing Masters National Championships at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota.

The four-day event, Aug. 15-18, features more than two dozen local rowers, men and women between the ages of 22 and 74.

US Rowing Masters National Championships hosts more than 1,000 entries, master rowers from 28 states in the U.S. and Canada, competing in 199 events in 11 categories.

Members of the Cape Coral Rowing Club will compete in men's 4+, women's 4+, mixed (men and women) 4+, men's 8+, women's 8+ and men's singles. The plus (+) symbol indicates boats utilizing a coxswain.

US Rowing is a nonprofit membership organization recognized by the United States Olympic Committee as the national governing body for the sport of rowing in the U.S. US Rowing selects, trains and manages the teams that represent the U.S. in international competition including the world championships, Pan American Games and Olympics.

The Cape Coral Rowing Club organized in 2007, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization promoting rowing on a local, regional, national and international level through its masters and scholastic programs.
