I’m worried

August 9, 2013
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

To the editor:

District 1 council race has four candidates vying for the seat starting with a 28-year-old student named Graham Norris who displayed lack of understanding of issues important to Cape Coral and council procedures. I will pass on Mr. Morris and wish him well with his college education. Next is 72-year- old David Head, who ran for office 13 years ago and claims to be a political activist since the '90s and a founding member of Procape. I Googled Procape and found nothing describing the organization. I will wait and see what Mr. Headd has to offer.

Steven Goulb is the next candidate. I don't know much about Mr. Goulb since he missed the candidate debate this past Tuesday at the Yacht Club. The last candidate is former council member and appointed mayor, Mr. Burch. As you would expect, he appeared to be the most knowledgeable of the three. My concern with Mr. Burch is his record for not voting on UEP issues claiming a perceived appearance of a conflict of interest. Whatever Mr. Burch wants to call it, his lack of voting caused the ongoing UEP to stop which opened the door to the worst political era ever experienced by the city of Cape Coral.

The Minute Men, as they called themselves, caused more harm to our city without firing their muskets. Little by little their council members were voted out of office with only Sullivan and Leetz remaining from this dark past. I don't know if Mr. Burch will vote on UEP issues this time around, but we need leadership, not someone who knows how to turn the microphone button on or off. I will have to pass on Mr. Burch due to his past of lack of performance and hope that Mr. Goulb shows up to one of the remaining candidate debates. Otherwise, Mr. Headd is ahead.
