August 2, 2013
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

A Cape Coral man was fatally injured Thursday night when the mini-van he had parked in his driveway rolled over him as he was retrieving items from the hatchback.

Jose M. Banderas, 87, parked the vehicle in his driveway at 1825 Southwest 45th Lane shortly before 9 p.m., exited the Dodge Caravan and went to the rear of vehicle. Shortly after he opened the hatch door, the van began to reverse, trapping Banderas underneath the vehicle and causing the fatal injuries. He died on scene, officials said.

A passenger, Marcella S. Banderas, 85, also of 1825 Southwest 45th Lane, was not injured.

This traffic crash was not alcohol or drug related.
