To the editor:
I recently paid a visit to the newly formed website "capcapetaxes," a self-proclaimed common sense look at overtaxation in the city. This site was the creation of Steve Lovejoy, with a history of passing along printed materials that played loose and fast with Steve's so-called facts.
At the beginning of this website the author describes the intent of the site to be one for honest discussions regarding city taxes and spending, with no allowance of name calling or similar behavior so prevalent with many opinion sites today.
Recently his site posted a story about Moody's report card on state pensions and the legislative emergencies created in states such as Illinois, California and New Jersey. The obviously cherry-picked story draws reactions of disapproval with Florida's pension system, but fails to include easily found data from different sources that Florida's system is very healthy.
If you are just angry and ignorant, then this is the site for you. But if you want the truth about the issues facing the city as well as the state then find them elsewhere, because "capcapetaxes" is out to deceive the unknowing. As I told Steve Lovejoy, half a truth is half a lie!
