FORT MYERS - The Fort Myers Miracle scored four runs in the first two innings and went on to beat the Jupiter Hammerheads 5-2 on Tuesday at Hammond Stadium.

Tyler Duffey earned his second win in as many starts after shutting down the Hammerheads over six innings. He allowed two runs on five hits while striking out five and walking just one.

The Miracle jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Aderling Mejia reached on an infield single and scored on a triple by Byron Buxton. Kennys Vargas brought home Buxton when he lined a double off the wall against Jake Esch.

After Stephen Wickens led off the second inning with a single, Lance Ray belted his first home run of the season deep to right field to put the Miracle ahead 4-0.

Fort Myers added one more off of Esch in the fourth. Wickens started the frame with a walk and stole second. He moved to third on a single by Ray and scored on a fielders choice by Candido Pimentel to make it 5-0.

The Hammerheads started to chip away at Duffey in the fifth and sixth innings but the second year pro held them in check. Ryan Goetz tripled to start the fifth. After Isaac Galloway popped out, Josh Adams plated Goetz with a sac fly. Two batters later Brent Keys grounded out to end the inning.

With one out in the sixth, Ryan Rieger tripled. Duffey threw a wild pitch that allowed Rieger to score, but he settled down to get Alex Burg to pop out and Goetz to ground out.

Jose Gonzalez stranded four base runners in two scoreless innings of relief.

Corey Williams pitched around a one-out single in the ninth to collect his 10th save of the year.

Buxton went 2 for 4 with a triple, single, run scored and a stolen base. Wickens also stole two bases.

The Miracle (55-29, 10-7) and Hammerheads (43-43, 8-10) continue their three game series at Hammond Stadium on Wednesday at 12:05 p.m. It is Big Splash at the Bill with water park fun outside the stadium gates beginning at 9 a.m. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at the Hammond Stadium box office.
