BRADENTON - The Fort Myers Miracle defeated the Bradenton Marauders 5-2 on Tuesday.
Tyler Duffey, in his fifth start for the Miracle since being promoted from Cedar Rapids on June 5, pitched a gem. The righ-hander out of Rice, pitched seven shutout innings. He scattered just four hits, all singles, and faced the minimum through the first five innings.
The Miracle broke a scoreless tie when Candido Pimentel and Byron Buxton delivered two-out, RBI singles off of Joely Rodriguez in the fifth.
Kennys Vargas added an RBI sac fly that plated Aderling Mejia in the sixth.
Buxton picked up his second RBI base hit of the night in the seventh against Pat Ludwig to put Fort Myers up comfortably, 4-0. Mejia added an RBI ground out to complete the scoring for the Miracle.
Jose Gonzalez pitched a scoreless eighth. Zack Jones gave up a two-run double to Stetson Allie in the ninth that was dropped by Buxton in deep center, but Jones struck out Willy Garcia to end the threat and the game.
Buxton went 2-fo-4 with two RBI. Stephen Wickens also went 2-for-4 and scored twice.
The Miracle (51-27, 6-5) and Marauders (31-49, 5-7) meet again at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday Hammond Stadium. It is an Independence Day Fireworks Celebration with the best fireworks show in Southwest Florida immediately following the conclusion of the game.
