TUCSON, Ariz. - FGCU baseball freshmen Michael Murray and Nick Rivera of Cape Coral added to their postseason awards this week when the duo was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team, announced by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
Murray and Rivera were unanimous selections to the Atlantic Sun All-Freshmen team following the regular season. A total of eight players from the A-Sun were named to the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team.
Murray was FGCU's No. 2 weekend starter in his initial season for the Eagles (37-20), producing a 5-1 record with a 2.93 ERA, which ranked eighth in the A-Sun. Over his 13 starts, Murray went six or more innings eight times and allowed two earned runs or less on eight occasions.
Rivera, a product of Bishop Verot HS, slugged his way into to the heart of the batting order. He made 33 of his 51 starts at third base, batting .287 with a team-high 23 extra-base hits including eight home runs and 34 RBI.
