Resignation or removal called for

May 17, 2013
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

To the editor:

I am horrified at what I am hearing on the news, regarding Councilman McClain not living in the District that he was elected to represent, since last year! Councilman McClain admitted to this on live TV. He should resign posthaste as this is clearly a violation of the City Charter. Contrary to what he stated Tuesday night on TV that it was not a crime, it is tantamount to a crime to violate the City Charter!

If Councilman McClain refuses to resign, then it would behoove this Council to remove him from office! We cannot and should not allow elected officials to violate the terms of our City Charter and continue in their seat on Council. It would make a mockery of our City Charter.

This is copied from the City web site "The residents of the City of Cape Coral elect a Mayor and seven Council Members. Council members qualify in their respective districts but are elected at large. The elected members MUST RESIDE in their district...."

The Mayor and Council swore to uphold our City Charter on the Bible when they initially took office and now is the time to put feet to those words!

It would be best to hold a Special Meeting immediately and dispose of this embarrassment to Cape Coral in an expeditious manner by removing Councilman McClain as a councilman immediately!
