Joan Elizabeth Stavich, 82, passed away in Cape Coral Saturday, May 11, 2013, after long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born July 20, 1930, in Wheeling, W.Va., the daughter of Edwin and Hazel Murphy. She was united in marriage to Samuel Semo Stavich June 30, 1951, in Wheeling. They were married 55 years until his passing in May 2006.
She was raised in Wheeling and spent most of her life there, graduating from Wheeling High School in 1948. She was a long-time, active member of St Joan of Arc Catholic Church, in Wheeling. She and her husband moved to Cape Coral in 1990 where she was a member of St Andrew Catholic Church.
A consummate mother, Mrs. Stavich also worked as a full-time employee at Wheeling Machine/Joy Manufacturing for 25 years in the accounting department, while raising five sons. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. She also loved reading; never without a book. She enjoyed traveling, spending summer vacations with family and friends at West Virginia's many state parks. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her three sons, Paul, Peter, and Andrew Stavich; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Stavich; four grandchildren, Steve, Abigail, Adam, and Curtis; and two sisters, Pat McGinley, and Sandra Martin. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by sons, Samuel Jr., and Michael Stavich; and brother, Edwin Murphy.
Memor0ial Services will be held Thursday, May 16, 2013, at St Andrew Catholic Church in Cape Coral. A burial service will be held Friday, May 17, 2013, at Sarasota National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband Semo.
