DAYTONA BEACH - Fort Myers Miracle right-handed pitcher D.J. Baxendale was named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week for May 6-12.
Baxendale started two games and posted a 1-0 record, picking up a win on May 6 against the Tampa Yankees.
The 10th round pick of the Minnesota Twins went seven scoreless innings on May 6 at Hammond Stadium, allowing just three hits and striking out 10.
Back on the hill on May 11, Baxendale tossed another seven innings in a no decision. The native of Fayetteville, Arkansas again allowed just three hits and one unearned run with one walk and six strikeouts.
In the week, Baxendale fanned 16 in 14 innings.
For the season, Baxendale has a 5-0 record in seven starts with a miniscule 1.25 earned run average. In 43.1 innings, D.J. has allowed just six earned runs with only seven walks and 41 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting just .179 against Baxendale.
The Miracle are 6-1 in games that Baxendale has started and have compiled a the best record in professional baseball at 28-8.
