It's getting close to the end for high school football players trudging through spring practice sessions.
For most, the 25 days of bumps, bruises and sweat-soaked jerseys comes to an end next week with spring classic games. Bishop Verot travels to Naples on Thursday to face First Baptist Academy to kick things off.
Cape Coral, Island Coast and North Fort Myers play opponents on Friday. The Seahawks join East Lee County in traveling to Immokalee to face the Indians and each other. Island Coast hosts Fort Myers while North Fort Myers hosts Lehigh.

The following week, Ida Baker and Mariner play their spring clashes. Baker hosts Naples on May 23 while Mariner travels to Golden Gate on May 24.

The FHSAA Final Four showcases 32 teams from the, including the contenders for the state championships in classes 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A, 7A and 8A.
Lee County has not hosted one of the state baseball finals since 1967. Bringing the event to Lee County was a combined effort of the Lee County Sports Authority, Lee County Parks & Recreation, the Red Sox and the Lee County School District.
The FHSAA event has an estimated economic impact of $1.8 million.
Play begins Wednesday and runs through May 23, except on Sunday.

Island Coast: Tyrell "T.J." Johnson ended his high school career at the FHSAA Class 3A Finals last weekend.
Johnson placed third in the state in the 100-meter dash and fourth in the state in the 200-meter run.
