Island Coast and Cape High staged an old fashioned duel Monday afternoon at Hammond Stadium, spring home of the Major League Minnesota Twins and summer home of the Class A Florida State League Fort Myers Miracle.
The prelude to the Miracle's game with Palm Beach, went into an extra inning before Cape's Seahawks scratched out a 3-1 victory.
The Seahawks scored a run early when Cody Carroll stroked an RBI single, their third hit of the inning, with runners on second and third.
The 1-0 lead held up with Kyle Arjona on the hill striking out five over scoreless six innings. Anthony Lawrence came on in relief in the seventh, giving up the tying run in the seventh, but slamming the door on the Gators in the bottom of the eighth. The two pitchers limited the Gators to just four hits.
Lawrence's ground ball to first base in the top of the eighth was misplayed for an error, allowing the game-winning run to cross the plate.
Scott Dudas and Matt Hale had two hits apiece for the Seahawks, who finished with eight singles.
The Seahawks (13-9) host East Lee County on Thursday.
