PORT CHARLOTTE - The Florida State League's only remaining undefeated team, the Fort Myers Miracle boosted their sizzling start to the season to 8-0 Friday night with a 6-4 victory over the Charlotte Stone Crabs.
That came on the heels of the Miracle completing a three-game sweep of Jupiter Thursday at Hammond Stadium to go to 7-0 for the first time in franchise history since 1994.
The Miracle won each of those three games with Jupiter by one run and reeled off their four consecutive one-run win. That streak ended Friday with the two-run win at Charlotte.
Under new manager Doug Mientkiewicz, the Miracle seem to have found new and exciting ways to win.
The Miracle and Hammerheads battled back and forth, leading by as many as two runs, but each time the advantage did not last long.
The Miracle bullpen has been solid.
Zack Jones faced three hitters in the ninth inning, striking out two and hitting 98 mph on the stadium radar gun. The save was Jones' third of the season. Reliever Ryan O'Rourke entered with the score tied and pitched scoreless relief in the seventh and eighth to earn the win, his third win in three appearances this season.
The Miracle and Stone Crabs continue their in a weekend series before the Palm Beach Cardinals come to Hammond Stadium for three games starting Monday.
