To the editor:
Voters need to pay attention to what Republican politicians actually do, not what they say. The Republicans who say they want to balance the budget now are the same ones who voted for two disastrous tax cuts and two unfunded multi-trillion dollar wars that turned the Clinton budget surpluses into galloping deficits.
Republicans who now say they want to create more jobs and restore economic growth are the same ones who just spent years blocking job creation bills and sabotaging the economy trying to make our President look bad.
Republicans who scream about our deficits (that they created!) and demand that entitlement spending be cut are the same ones who refuse to reduce the deficit by closing tax loopholes and subsidies that benefit the rich and powerful. Never mind that cutting spending now will further hurt our economy.
Republicans are determined to be seen as fiscally responsible, no matter how much the evidence demonstrates the exact opposite. Shame on them.
