Baker claims duel with FM

Senior right-hander Maddy Peres got the better of counterpart Casey Mayer in a pitching duel Friday night as Ida Baker clipped Fort Myers 4-1.

The Bulldogs grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third inning as Lacie Ellithorpe and Jessica Nuccio (2-for-4) came through with RBI hits. Deniece Bent (2-for-4) drove in a run in an insurance run in the seventh and another scored on a passed ball.

Mayer accounted for the Green Wave's lone run on a fourth-inning solo home run. Mayer struck out 16 Bulldogs in a losing cause while Peres fanned 13 while limiting the Wave to three base hits.

The Bulldogs (7-2) host Island Coast on Tuesday.

North Fort Myers 16, Cypress Lake 6: North Fort Myers rode two big offensive innings to victory over Cypress Lake Friday night.

Alynn Kayatta connected for two hits, including a triple, while teammates Katie Grubb, Sarah Waitekus, Ashlee Hroncich, Emily Bush and Melinda Thirion each contributed two hits. Thirion finished with four RBI, including a three-run double in the six-run second inning that got the Knights offense rolling. Grubb drove in three runs.

The Knights (8-3) host Lehigh on Tuesday.

Island Coast 5, South Fort Myers 1: Led by Taylor Sense with two hits, including a double, and two RBI, Island Coast dumped South Fort Myers Friday night.

Danielle Moody drove in a pair of runs for the Gators, who relied on good defense and timely hitting. Katie McDonald pitched seven innings, allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out seven.

The Gators (4-7) host Oasis on Monday.

Lemon Bay 5, Mariner 1: Mariner got behind by four runs before getting on the scoreboard Friday night in a 5-1 loss to Lemon Bay.

Felicia Rice had two hits and drove in the only run for the Tritons. Alyssa Langdale struck out seven in the losing cause.

The Tritons (6-6) travel to Golden Gate on Monday.
