Ralph Thomas Moriarty, 73, a Cape Coral resident since 1996, formerly of Burr Ridge, Ill., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, in Cape Coral surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with cancer. He was born March 17, 1939, in Oak Park, Ill., to Thomas and Mary Moriarty, now deceased.
He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and an U.S. Army veteran. He was an avid golfer and boater. He will be remembered as a true and loyal friend who brought joy and laughter to all who knew him. He was a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather and "papa." He was an exceptionally strong man who battled cancer for 8-1/2 years, walking until his last day. He will be remembered as a man with a zest for life and the courage of a warrior.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 16 years, Kathleen "Kate" Moriarty of Cape Coral; three children, Cheryl Minardi of Ft. Collins, Colo., Laurie (Tim) Finnegan of Shalimar, Fla., and Kimberly Moriarty of Scottsdale, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Sarina Moriarty, Timothy Finnegan, Michael Powell, Erin Finnegan, Aryel Hill and Jacob Hill; a great-granddaughter, Faith Phreed; as well as a sister-in-law, Mary Clare Pott of South Carolina; and a brother-in-law, Patrick Moran of New Jersey.
Mr. Moriarty was preceded in death by two sisters, Joanne Parks and Patricia Harbacek.
A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Feb. 25, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 2628 Del Prado Blvd., South, Cape Coral with Father Eddie Gibbons officiating.
A Celebration of Life will also be held in Chicago at a later date.
