Bulldogs, ‘Hawks play for Early Bird title

Zach Nason's single with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning produced the game-winning run Tuesday night, lifting Ida Baker to a 3-2 win over Island Coast in the semifinals of Cape High's Early Bird Tournament at Terry Park.

The Gators, who saw their 2-0 lead erased by the Gators in the top of the seventh, broke the 2-2 tie with two out in the ninth. Nason finished with two hits along with Sean Brady. Isaac Struense had the game's lone extra-base hit.

Anthony Churlin had two hits and Josh Moody three hits for the Gators (1-1).

Cape Coral 5, South Fort Myers 4: Josh Valmana delivered the game-winning hit, a double, in the bottom of the seventh inning to life Cape Coral to victory over South Fort Myers in the semifinals of the Seahawks' Earlhy Bird Tournament Tuesday at Terry Park.

The Seahawks, who enjoyed a 4-2 lead until the seventh inning, saw the Wolfpack tie the game in the seventh before pulling out the win on Valmana's clutch hit.

The Seahawks (1-0) face Ida Baker in the championship game at 7 p.m. Friday.

Gulf Coast 2, Mariner 1: A sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk loaded the bases in the eighth inning ahead of a game-winning RBI single to lift Gulf Coast to victory over Mariner in Cape High's Early Bird Tournament Tuesday night.

Joey Morales has two hits for the Tritons (0-2), who face North Fort Myers Thursday in a consolation match.

Mariner 11, Dunbar 1: Heather Gillions slapped a pair of doubles and drove in four runs to power Mariner to a 10-run victory Tuesday night over Dunbar.

Gillions and Ali Hunt contributed three hits apiece while Katie Ennis had two, including a triple, and Taylor Henderson added two hits, including a double. Seven of the Tritons' 13 hits were for extra bases.

The Tritons (3-0) play Friday at Lemon Bay.

Cape Coral 5, Ida Baker 3: Mallory Gerrero figured in Cape's tying and game-winning rallies at Ida Baker Tuesday night.

Gerrero walked in the fifth inning when Cape tied the game 3-3 with a pair of runs in the fifth inning, scoring on Clara Mediano's single.

In the seventh, Gerrero walked and scored on Mediano's ground ball play at the plate that went to the backstop.

Gerrero finished with two hits and Kerry McLaughlin added two hits for the Seahawks.

The Seahawks (4-0) play Thursday at Riverdale.
