Baker, Island Coast notch Early Bird wins

Bob Van Deventer won his first game as a varsity baseball coach Monday night as Ida Baker defeated Mariner 7-2 in the first round of the Cape High Early Bird Tournament at Terry Park.

Sean Brady's two-run double in the second inning proved to be the hit that set the tone of the game for the Bulldogs' victory. Brady also pitched three innings, surrendering one run and striking out eight. Lewis Ferrer was the losing pitcher for the Tritons (0-1), who take on Gulf Coast in the consolation round Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs (1-0) square off with Island Coast (1-0) in the semifinals Tuesday.

Island Coast 7, Gulf Coast 0: Kameron Gellinger and Anthony Churlin delivered two hits apiece to lead Island Coast's shutout victory over Gulf Coast in Monday's first round of the Cape High Early Bird Tournament at Terry Park.

F.T. Corso earned the win for the Gators (1-0), who meet Ida Baker in the semifinal round Tuesday.
