Seahawks cruise in softball season opener

Cape Coral made its softball season debut Monday night with a 10-0 rout of Evangelical Christian.

Makenzie Buss was the winning pitcher and led the Seahawks with three hits and three runs batted-in.

Kerry McLaughlin added a double and two RBI while Mallory Gerrero, Clara and Mikinzi Ferran each added two hits. Those five players accounted for nine of the Seahawks' 12 base hits.

The Seahawks (1-0) host East Lee County Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Wrestling

Oasis grappled for its first wrestling district championship Saturday at Bradenton Southeast.

Eleven of the Sharks wrestlers qualified for next weekend's Region 1A meet in Tampa. Joe Pascale led the squad by winning the 160-pound individual championship with a pin of Southest's Ricky Almodovar, both of which are ranked in the top 15 in the state.

Other Sharks wrestlers qualifying for regional with division and place are: Josh Childs (106, 3rd); Greg Krempski (120, 2nd); Zach Maggas (126, 3rd); Zane Cooper (132, 4th); Matt Dressel (138, 3rd); Zavier Bravo (145, 4th); Austin Beach (152, 4th); Joey Giammarusto (170, 3rd); Jacob Edwards (182, 2nd); Jacob Curry (195, 2nd).
