Oasis notches 1st playoff win

The Oasis Sharks extended their season for at least one more game with a 42-24 victory Tuesday night in the first round of the girls' District 3A-11 basketball tournament.

The win in the first playoff win for the Sharks' program and advances them to Wednesday's semifinal round against St. John Neumann Wednesday night at Seacrest. Neumann advanced by ousting Moore Haven 51-13 Tuesday night.

Sophomore Jordan Westendorf led the Sharks in scoring with 11 points and 10 rebounds while sophomore Samantha Wood added six points to reach 500 points over two seasons. Sarah Pickle contributed eight points.

Island Coast 55, South Fort Myers 30: Leann Ellis led Island Coast to victory Tuesday night over South Fort Myers in the District 6A-13 girls' basketball tournament at Ida Baker.

Ellis pitched in a game-high 23 points, backed by Caroline Ortiz with 11 points and Jennifer Fasano 10.

The Gators (10-14) advance to the semifinals Wednesday night against No. 1 seed Fort Myers at 5 p.m. Baker takes on Riverdale in the second semifinal game at 7 p.m.
