Two goals in the first four minutes of the second half lifted Riverdale to a 3-2 victory over Mariner Saturday night in the girls' soccer Region 3A-3 semifinal round.
The Tritons overcame an early goal to take a 2-1 lead at halftime as Alejandra Muro-Solis scored twice before intermission.
"We played well and took the lead at halftime," said Tritons coach Jefferson Swift. "We gave up a goal about 30 seconds into the second half and another minutes later."
Tritons goalkeeper Alexis Restrepo, making her first career start because Samantha Wolfe suffered a broken hand against Naples in Wednesday's quarterfinal match, wound up with a dozen saves.
"We had some great chances down the stretch," said Swift. "In the second half we got no lucky bounces."
The Tritons finish the season 18-4-4 while Riverdale advances to Tuesday's regional finals round.
Dunbar 55, Mariner 53: Dunbar struck quickly and grabbed an 31-23 halftime lead Saturday night en route to a 55-53 victory at Dunbar.
"We got in a hole early, but got the lead badck in the third quarter," said Tritons coach James Harris. "We just came up short."
Rodney Hunter and Rick Moore led the Tritons in double figures with 22 and 14 points, respectively. Moore also grabbed nine rebounds and Hunter seven.
"We've had some good competition before the district tournament," said Harris. "We just have to find a way to overcome a game like tonight. Dunbar is like a team we might see in the playoffs."
The Tritons had the final possession as the clock was running out, but a turnover sealed the win for the Tigers.
The Tritons (14-9) host Fort Myers Tuesday night.
