The Cape Coral Elder's Quorum is sponsoring a community wide pig roast for the purpose of a canned food collection for local middle school children. The event will take place today, Jan. 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, located at 1928 Chiquita Blvd., in Cape Coral.
The Women's Relief Society will be providing side dishes. We are linking with "Not in My City" for this food drive purpose and the total goal of collection efforts is 600,000 pounds of food. Requested items include peanut butter; jelly; pasta and sauce; granola bars; Ramen noodles; packaged fruit snacks; individual oatmeal packets; canned tuna; canned ham; canned chicken; canned beef; soups; canned vegetables; canned fruits; hamburger helper; tuna helper; mac and cheese; all kinds of beans; and rice.
This is an emergency food drive for the backpack program offered to children in Skyline Elementary and Patriot Elementary in Cape Coral, Bonita Springs Elementary and Bonita Springs Middle School Tropic Isles Elementary in North Fort Myers, Treeline Elementary and Fort Myers Middle School in Fort Myers, and Lehigh Elementary School.

New Hope Presbyterian Church welcomes the Chrysalis Chamber Players in concert Saturday, Feb. 2, at 4 p.m., in the sanctuary.

Women of the Word began an exciting new Bible study Tuesday, Jan. 15. The women will be studying the book of Galatians. Two sessions are being offered, 9-11 a.m. and 6:30-8 p.m. If you have small children, bring them along, the church will have exciting activities planned for them! The church's "Missionary of the Month" is the Rev. Allen Vander Pol. He is a missionary and professor at Miami International Seminary. He writes theology courses in English for students around the world who study with MINTS. He writes courses in Systematic (doctrinal) Theology. He supervises students and study centers in Southeast Asia. He travels to India, Myanmar and the Philippines to teach and supervise the work of study centers there. Rev. Vander Pol was pastor of Trinity Reformed Church for 13 years before he went into full-time missions.

The Ralph Votapek Trio will open the 14th season of the Signature Chamber Concerts Sunday, Jan. 27, presenting celebrated pianist Ralph Votapek, winner of the first Van Cliburn competition, clarinetist Paul Votapek and violinist Geoffrey Day.
