The Surfside Sunset Market debuted Tuesday, Jan. 8, at the Shops at Surfside, located on the northwest corner or Veterans Parkway and Surfside Boulevard, offering the community fresh, healthy and local produce, gulf-fresh seafood, fresh bakery items, homemade cupcakes, homemade beignets, orchids and ornamental plants, cheese, roasted nuts, local honey, fresh-cut flowers, jams & jellies and so much more.

On-site craft vendors will be offering unique hand-made jewelry and finely crafted wood items.

For more than a decade as vice president, Gary Matern has led one of the most successful automotive dealerships in Southwest Florida. 11th annual Myers, Brettholtz & Company

nonprofit seminar Jan. 29

Myers, Brettholtz & Company, PA, Certified Public Accountants & Business Consultants, will hold its 11th annual nonprofit workshop Tuesday, Jan. 29, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The seminar will take place at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre for the first time, located at 1380 Colonial Boulevard in Fort Myers.

Since 2001, Myers, Brettholtz & Company PA has sponsored seminars focused on the needs of nonprofits in the areas of human resources, fund-raising, accounting practices and finance.

Myers, Brettholtz hosts the annual seminar in partnership with the United Way and the Southwest Florida Community Foundation. The program will include information on the shifting of philanthropy in the marketplace and increasing demands for transparency, stewardship and collaboration that have necessitated a new model for the nonprofit community.

Speakers will include President and CEO Mark Brewer of the Community Foundation of Central Florida, Initiative Consultant Pam Truitt of The Patterson Foundation, as well as Sarah Owen, president and CEO of the Southwest Florida Community Foundation and Cliff Smith, president of United Way of Lee, Glades & Hendry County.

English appointed to Florida Farm Bureau Water and Natural Resources Advisory Committee

Pavese Law Firm partner Katherine R. English has been appointed to the Florida Farm Bureau Water and Natural Resources Advisory Committee. English and the other committee members serve in an advisory capacity to the Florida Farm Bureau's state board of directors, providing insight on issues relating to agriculture. English was selected by John Hoblick, the president of Florida Farm Bureau, based on her knowledge and expertise in this area.

English focuses her practice on environmental and agricultural law and has extensive agricultural experience. English is also a class IV alumna of the Wedgworth Leadership Institute, formerly known as the Florida Leadership Program for Agriculture and Natural Resources, at the University of Florida. Bitar warehouse manager at Carpet Concepts

Carpet Concepts has announced the hiring of Matt Bitar as the new warehouse manager. Bitar will be trained in all aspects of the business, however, his primary duties will include overseeing the shipping, receiving, and inventory control of products for the company.

Bitar is originally from Michigan, and recently relocated to Southwest Florida. Prior to his position with Carpet Concepts, he worked in various industries, with experience in customer service, medical technologies, and tile setting.

Builders Care plans building product blow-out event

Get started now on those long-planned renovations for your home or office. Builders Care, the nonprofit arm of the Lee Building Industry Association, hosts its fourth semi-annual building product garage sale to raise funds to help local homeowners in need.

Local suppliers and building industry related companies are providing great deals on all kinds of items including appliances, lighting, plumbing fixtures, kitchen cabinets and paint. All proceeds will benefit Builders Care and help provide emergency construction services to elderly and disabled Lee County homeowners in need.

The sale will take place Feb. 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cape Coral Plumbing, located at 5812 Enterprise Parkway in the BillyCreekCommerceCenter off Luckett Road, just west of I-75. Admission is free, but a $5 donation is suggested per adult. Beverages and snacks will be available.

Builders Care is the nonprofit charitable arm of the Lee Building Industry Association (BIA). Its objective is to provide emergency repairs and construction services to elderly, disabled and economically disadvantaged people who are unable to obtain home repairs through traditional means. Builders Care enlists the volunteer services of Lee BIA members and leverages grants and donated materials to provide construction and remodeling services to qualified homeowners throughout LeeCounty.

IHOP to offer free

pancakes on National Pancake Day Feb. 5

IHOP, one of America's most popular family-friendly restaurants, known for "everything you love about breakfast," will once again invite guests to enjoy free pancakes during National Pancake Day Feb. 5, while celebrating Children's Miracle Network Hospitals' 30th Anniversary.

On this day, the restaurant chain hopes to raise $3 million as the first national fund-raising campaign to kick off the 2013 fund-raising year for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

During National Pancake Day, the company's largest philanthropic event of the year, more than 1,500 IHOP restaurants across the country will invite guests to enjoy a complimentary stack of IHOP's signature delicious buttermilk pancakes from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Guests will be encouraged to make a voluntary contribution to the local Children's Miracle Network Hospital or other local charities. One hundred percent of the donations will help local charities provide vital equipment, life-saving procedures and critical care for sick and injured children.

This will mark the eighth year that IHOP has held National Pancake Day, which to date has raised more than $10 million dollars for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and other local charities.
